While I did enjoy the first volume better, because the start lagged quite a bit to begin with, this is still good enough for me to want to keep reading the series。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’m unhappy with the turn it took at the end。 I hoped to have more chapters in Eshonai’s perspective, to really understand the parshendi because they were more interesting than any of the human characters。 I also wish the author had not just made them the blatant villains without more explanation。 There is another half of the book left, so hopefully he will develop the parshendi more so I can fully accept them as the villains。Also I dislike Shallan。 A lot。 The author did build up her character, I’m unhappy with the turn it took at the end。 I hoped to have more chapters in Eshonai’s perspective, to really understand the parshendi because they were more interesting than any of the human characters。 I also wish the author had not just made them the blatant villains without more explanation。 There is another half of the book left, so hopefully he will develop the parshendi more so I can fully accept them as the villains。Also I dislike Shallan。 A lot。 The author did build up her character, but she just comes of as privileged, annoying and just plain boring at times。 I do not like Adolin at all。 His character though is obviously meant to come off as cocky and arrogant, but like Shallan he seemed kinda useless and irritating at time。 Kaladin was alright, but my love for his character has since dissolved since the last book。 Dalinar was alright, but we barely had any of his chapters。The book had some pacing issues, often feeling like it was dragging in certain parts, and not pushing the story forward enough。 In all honesty, I feel like we barely moved any where since the last book in terms of plot。 The majority of the interludes were boring, with characters that had barely anything to do with the story。 Yes, sometimes it can be refreshing to have a break from the story but it was moving so slow I just wanted to get on with it。The interludes with Eshonai were probably the most interesting part of the entire book。 Hopefully part two will be better。 。。。more

Once again Brandon Sanderson shows his skill in worldbuilding and character development to make you beg for more。 Slowly we get more backstory into Roshar shown to us, as well as fauna and flora, culminating in a massive display of worldbuilding but that you didn't even notice is being shown to you。 I adored the evolution of Shallan in this book, we have seen a little of it previously and now she is starting to properly embrace her power and step into her own personality。 I also really enjoy rea Once again Brandon Sanderson shows his skill in worldbuilding and character development to make you beg for more。 Slowly we get more backstory into Roshar shown to us, as well as fauna and flora, culminating in a massive display of worldbuilding but that you didn't even notice is being shown to you。 I adored the evolution of Shallan in this book, we have seen a little of it previously and now she is starting to properly embrace her power and step into her own personality。 I also really enjoy reading about the lovable band of buffoons that is Bridge 4 and how they are settling into their new roles and what is expected of them。 I wish Kalladin would step into his own destiny as easily but unfortunately his internal struggles do not allow for that much, still I love to read his chapters。 The political drama escalated beyond imaginable and the scene of our main characters fighting the Assassin in White gave me heart palpitations and I was shrieking like a mad person。 Now that most of them are united in the same place it’s very enjoyable to read their interactions and scenes together。 I found this book to be funnier than the previous two。There was a very annoying event with Jasnah of which I have my own theories and assumptions and can’t wait to see if they are right or wrong。 。。。more

As part 1 of a two part book 2, this book is less action packed than book one。 Still good for escapism and imagination。

Another Stellar book in the series。 Only gripe is some of the Shallan chapters were a little slow at times (The flashbacks)。

This was an interesting start and I’m intrigued to see how this story continues。 The reason this is not 5 stars is that Shallan is not my favourite character and this focused on her a lot。 Also, the fact that this feels like half of a book and I tend to love Sanderson’s endings the most。

Lydia

Shallan’s character growth!!! Is absolutely stunning!!! Kaladin has a rival for my favourite character in this series。。。

Again no rating until i finish part 2 because they're not supposed to be thought of as separatethoughts so far - continuing to meet the standard set by last book - BIG THINGS coming, part 2 is going to intense - great character writing。。。 mostly。。。 - minor pet peeve in the repeated scenario of Shallan: moderately witty quip Other Characters: bellowing laughter, pounding tables, rolling on the ground it just feels cartoonish and out-of-place, not to mention that silly insult-slinging match two ch Again no rating until i finish part 2 because they're not supposed to be thought of as separatethoughts so far - continuing to meet the standard set by last book - BIG THINGS coming, part 2 is going to intense - great character writing。。。 mostly。。。 - minor pet peeve in the repeated scenario of Shallan: moderately witty quip Other Characters: bellowing laughter, pounding tables, rolling on the ground it just feels cartoonish and out-of-place, not to mention that silly insult-slinging match two characters had。。。 - This book is the one with Shallan as the main focus and she was my favourite in book 1。 I like her slightly less as a person now, but like her as much as before as a character - i enjoy the pacing。 there are long kinda slow (but never boring) sections where lots of threads are gradually progression and building up, then sections of Oh Holy Shit This Is Intense - The reveal of some big worldbuilding details is just making everything more and more interesting。 Despite the Eshonai interludes being awkwardly exposition-heavy, they were some of my favourite bits 。。。more

No movie, book, show, or video game has given me chills as the Stormlight Archive has。 Thank you, Brandon SandersonI mean how often a book makes you want to close it, call up a fellow bibliophile, make you both scream in girlish glee at each other and keep repeating 'F*ck, that was so awesome!' until you're breathless! Because, He has to be best written character ever, with an unmatched character development。 Storm it! Almost every other character in this book has had a steady, relatable, and realistic character development, you'd fall in love with every one of them and at some point, begin to question if you're a closeted polygamist。 I wish I could rant more about this book and in more detail, but I'll get back to refining this review, for now, this will do。 Brb, gonna inhaling this whole series at a frightening pace until I completely lose my touch on reality。 。。。more

Too slow moving for my taste, but the story is intriguing。 The details of the surroundings are good but somewhat overwhelming and feels like unnecessary at times。 But despite all this, there’s a pull which keeps me coming back to read more。 Reading all the details makes me connect with characters more, it makes what I’m reading almost real, which I like。 This one is a bit drag but I’ve pulled through anticipating the further read in the series to make it all worth it, it better make it all worth Too slow moving for my taste, but the story is intriguing。 The details of the surroundings are good but somewhat overwhelming and feels like unnecessary at times。 But despite all this, there’s a pull which keeps me coming back to read more。 Reading all the details makes me connect with characters more, it makes what I’m reading almost real, which I like。 This one is a bit drag but I’ve pulled through anticipating the further read in the series to make it all worth it, it better make it all worth it because these are a lot of pages to go through。 。。。more

If there’s one good thing about Lockdown 3。0, it’s that it’s given me time to plow through the last 80% of this book in 48 hours 🤷🏼‍♀️ These books are intense and slow reads, but the storytelling is rich and I don’t mind that they take me longer than most books to read。 I’m not quite sure how Sanderson does it, but ordinarily I’m not a huge fan of books with multiple perspectives and time jumps。 This series has both, and many threads of the tale being spun at once, and I can’t get enough of it。 If there’s one good thing about Lockdown 3。0, it’s that it’s given me time to plow through the last 80% of this book in 48 hours 🤷🏼‍♀️ These books are intense and slow reads, but the storytelling is rich and I don’t mind that they take me longer than most books to read。 I’m not quite sure how Sanderson does it, but ordinarily I’m not a huge fan of books with multiple perspectives and time jumps。 This series has both, and many threads of the tale being spun at once, and I can’t get enough of it。 There are no perspectives that I don’t want to read, no storylines I don’t want to know more of, and all of this is fascinating to me。 That being said, these books are intense and my brain needs a break, especially at the moment when I’m mentally fatigued。 I’m looking forward to some lighthearted reads over the coming days, and hopefully I’ll pick up Part II soon - I’m keen to know what comes next!! 。。。more

Well, as far as fantasy novels go these books represent the pinnacle of the genre。 If Sanderson keeps this up he might do the unimaginable and shove JRR Tolkien off his throne。 One of the best books I have ever read。 Wow。

This truly is the most epic series i’ve ever encountered。 I want to grab part 2 straight away ! The characters are really starting to grow on me and the more time spent with them the more attached i get。 My only negative is that I find the interludes hard to read, because they don’t always relate to our main characters, despite that it’s still beautifully written and easy enough to follow。

So I have a yet to discover mental disorder。 I don’t know what to call it, but it goes as follows: unrelated to the amount of love I feel for a series, I am absolutely unable to read more than three books in succession, without losing interest。 It’s like eating chocolate: it’s amazing, but eating too much makes you sick (without changing your love for it)。 And unfortunately this book was the third ‘stormlight archive’ book I’ve read in a month, and I have had too much。 Even thought it’s still an So I have a yet to discover mental disorder。 I don’t know what to call it, but it goes as follows: unrelated to the amount of love I feel for a series, I am absolutely unable to read more than three books in succession, without losing interest。 It’s like eating chocolate: it’s amazing, but eating too much makes you sick (without changing your love for it)。 And unfortunately this book was the third ‘stormlight archive’ book I’ve read in a month, and I have had too much。 Even thought it’s still an amazing series!! Brandon Sanderson gave me the words to describe how I feel about his books:‘Is it terribly difficult for you?’ he asked softly。 ‘Living with the rest of us, suffering our average wits and simple thoughts? Is it lonely to be so singular in your brilliance (。。。)?’ -> p。 3I want to read the second part of book two, but I know beforehand that I will hate it, just because it’s the forth in a row。 I really want to know why my brain can’t cope with too much of the same writer, it’s so unfair。Anyhow, I still love this series, but I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the preceding two。 Words of Radiance (part one) was way more political and entailed less character growth than the first book。 It could be my disorder talking, but it just felt like there was less happening in this part。On the other hand, this book was funnier than the first。 This is a quote from Shallans spren, who’s started learning about the human world:‘Food。。。’ Pattern said。 The sound had a buzzing quality and he vibrated as he spoke。 ‘Yes,’ Shallan said。 ‘We eat it。’ (。。。) ‘Terrible!’ He said (。。。) ‘Terrible destruction to eat!’ -> p。 100-101I don’t know if it makes sense without context, but I thought this was very cute and funny。 It’s about fruit by the way。 Kind of a refreshing thought, because we usually think about meat when speaking about ‘destructive food’。 But to eat a fruit, the fruit is destroyed too。 Anyhow, this is also brilliant:‘Stupidity is a function of one’s surroundings。’ -> p。 220And:‘Truth is individual。’ -> p。 331If you think about it?? Both are true and serve to explain ignorance or lack of knowledge in a kind way。 I love that, because it can really hurt to be made fun of when you’re not familiar with certain information。 But if your surroundings don’t help you acquire that information, or if you really believe you knew something which proves to be false, it’s not really your fault。 So don’t ever blame anyone for not knowing stuff。 And since I’m already ranting about knowledge and stuff, this is the last quote I sticky noted:‘Do not let your assumptions about a culture block your ability to perceive the individual (。。。)’ -> 191So brilliant。 。。。more
